Meet Karen

ROOTED IN THE COMMUNITY, READY TO SERVE

For more than three decades, she has lived here, raised her family here, built her career here, and developed deep roots in the community she now hopes to represent on the Thousand Oaks City Council.

Karen Arreola has called Newbury Park home since 1993. She was a biotechnology executive and adjunct lecturer. Karen brings decades of experience in leadership, science, education, collaboration, and problem-solving to her campaign for the Thousand Oaks City Council.Ā Throughout her career, Karen has worked with people from different backgrounds to evaluate evidence, address complex challenges, and achieve practical results. She believes City Hall needs those same skills.

LISTENING.
PLANNING.
PUTTING RESIDENTSĀ
FIRST.

WHY Karen is Running

Karen is running because Newbury Park deserves a strong, independent, and responsive voice on the City Council.

Too many residents believe major decisions are made before the public has a meaningful opportunity to be heard. Karen believes City Hall must listen earlier, communicate more clearly, and fully evaluate the consequences of development and spending decisions.

She supports thoughtfully planned housing that meets community needs and is appropriately located. Development decisions must also consider traffic, water availability, infrastructure, wildfire evacuation, flooding, environmental protection, and neighborhood character.

Karen would not have supported the decision to up-zone the Borchard Road property to allow approximately ten times as many residential and commercial units as were previously permitted. Many Newbury Park residents opposed the change, and Karen believes their concerns should have been respected.
